Alternative Licensure Program


In the first year the ALP candidate is both a full time teacher and a student. During the second year, the ALP candidate works with an MSU Denver instructional coach to complete the requirements for the Colorado Department of Education (CDE).  At the end of the second year, candidates who have successfully completed all MSU Denver requirements and school/district expectations will receive an initial Colorado Teaching license, provided they have met the State requirements for licensure.

Curriculum:
MSU Denver course curriculum content covers strands important to the development of an effective teacher. They include:
• Classroom discipline and management
• Short and long range planning 
• Unit and lesson plans, implementation 
• Comprehensive assessment 
• Educational theory 
• Differentiated instruction
• Current issues in education
• Literacy
